BENKELMAN -- Cody Alan Mahan, 23, died Saturday (Feb. 22, 2003) near Ainsworth from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born May 16, 1979, in Chadron, to Dale Wayne and Merry (McGrew) Mahan. In 1994, he moved with his family to Benkelman, Nebraska, where he attended Benkelman High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1998. He went to state rodeo in team roping in 1996 and 1997, and he also went to state for wrestling in 1997. At the time of his death, he was employed on the Kenner Ranch at Wood Lake. He was active in Little Britches Rodeo, J.C. Wrestling, and 4-H during his early years. During his high school years, he participated in high school rodeo. He also participated in football and wrestling, and lettered in both sports. He and his horse, Gray participated in team roping, calf roping and steer wrestling.
Preceding him in death are his grandmother, Regina Mahan; and grandparents, Glen and Ruth McGrew.
Survivors include his parents, Dale and Merry Mahan of Benkelman; sister, Meagan Ansley of Ainsworth; grandparents, Dale and Verna Mahan of Crawford; grandmother, Virginia Kaiser of Hereford, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Benkelman, with the Rev. Norman Prather officiating. Interment will follow services at the Benkelman Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, from 1-7 p.m. (MST) at Forch Funeral Chapel in Benkelman.
