Margaret L. Lepper, 87, died Saturday (Feb. 22, 2003) at her home in McCook.
She was born Oct. 23, 1915, at Nelson, to Wilbur L. and Bertha A. (Enearl) Portwood. She grew up at Nelson where she graduated from Nelson High School in 1933. She attended Hastings College. In 1934, she began working for the Federal Emergency Relief Administration while taking her Civil Service Exam and working for the Farm Security Administration.
On Aug. 15, 1937, she married Barton H. Lepper at Nelson. During World War II, she served as secretary to the Commanding Officer of the Base Hospital of the Fairmont Army Air Field. In the fall of 1954, they moved to McCook where she was secretary for Walt Prior Accounting Office. In 1959, she was employed by the McCook School System and the McCook College. She later moved to Vallejo, Calif., where she was secretary to the President of Solano College from 1966-68. She returned to McCook and became the fiscal officer and payroll clerk for the office manager at McCook College from 1968-84.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church since 1927. A 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. A former member of TTT and Business and Professional Women.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Barton in 1965.
Survivors include one son, Jon R. Lepper and wife, Maggie of Spokane, Wash.; one daughter, Judith Otto of McCook; two brothers, Robert Portwood and wife, Jean of Hastings and John Portwood and wife, Marjorie of Norfolk; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at the Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Thurman officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
Visitation is Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday until service time.
