SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Captain Edward H. McDowell, 82, died Tuesday (March 11, 2003) in San Diego, Calif.
He was born July 16, 1920, in Brush, Colo., to Elvy and Grace (Hayward) McDowell. At an early age, the family moved to McCook where he received his elementary education through the eighth grade. The family moved to Hayes County where he graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1939.
In 1940, he entered the U.S. Army, serving for 21 years and where he attained the rank of Captain. He later worked as a wholesale representative for the lumber industry until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Hazel (Hammond) McDowell.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Metour of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one step-son, Ray Dewey and one step-daughter, Jean and husband, Bill Earle all of California; three sisters, Lucille Johnson of Arvada, Colo., DeWinta McDowell of Palisade and Joan and husband, Howard Mace of McCook; and two grandchildren.
A graveside inurnment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Palisade Veterans of Foreign Wars.
