Mildred Isobel Smith Frick, 88, died Tuesday (March 11, 2003) at Community Hospital in McCook.
She was born March 25, 1914, to Sam and Lucy Belle (Weekly) Adkins at Oxford. In childhood she moved to a farm near Trenton where she attended District No. 75 grade school. She graduated from Culbertson High School in 1931.
In 1934, she married Jim Smith, they had four children. Later she married Jake Frick and they had one child. After raising her family, she was in the restaurant business for many years in Trenton, Geneva and many other locations. After retirement she lived in Exeter and then Grand Island. Due to health problems she moved to McCook two months ago.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands James Smith and Jake Frick; an infant daughter, Velma Jean Smith; two sisters, Doris Ellis and Beulah Seybold; one brother Charles Adkins; daughter-in-law, Alice Smith and son-in-law, Ray Erdkamp; and one grandchild.
Survivors include two sons, Sam Smith of Grand Island and Don Smith and wife, Rosemarie of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Barbara and husband, Gerald Hein of McCook and Betty Collins and husband, Ted Collins of Coto de Caza, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at the Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Burial will be in the Trenton Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday until 8 p.m. at the Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.
Memorials may be given to the McCook Humane Society.
