SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Lois McGowne, 73, died Thursday (March 27, 2003) at her home in San Angelo, Texas.
She was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Decatur County, to Phillip and Laura May (Gilbert) Hackney. She was raised in Decatur County and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1947. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan.
She was married to Rex McGowne. She was a elementary school teacher.
She was a member of the Lake View Methodist Church in San Angelo and Eastern Star Chapter No. 106 of Oberlin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Herman, Elmer and Gerald; and sisters, Vada Scott and Ann Palmer.
Survivors include her husband, Rex McGowne of San Angelo, Texas; four sons, Steve McGowne and wife, Aleta of Spring, Texas, Stuart McGowne and wife, Cindy of Marshall, Mo., Mark McGowne and wife, Sylvia of San Antonio, Texas, and Larry McGowne of Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Lisa and husband, Lynn Love of Katy, Texas; three sisters, Alice Bobbitt of Oberlin, Agnes Mettler of Ruby, Ark., and Peggy Green of Odessa, Texas; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given in her name to Hospice of San Angelo.
