Joy L. Smith

Thursday, April 3, 2003

Funeral services for Joy L. Smith will be conducted from the United Methodist Church in Oxford on Saturday, 10 a.m., with the Rev. Theta Dame and the Rev. Hyeongdong Baek officiating. Interment will be in the Oxford Cemetery.

Joy Lynne Smith, 46, of Arapahoe, passed away Monday (March 31, 2003) at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, following many years of heart disease. She was born June 20, 1956, at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, to Clarence and Phyllis (Rowe) Wilsey. She was baptized at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Omaha at six weeks of age. The family made their home in Oxford. Joy received her education in Oxford and graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1974.

On July 14, 1973, Joy was united in marriage to Daniel Gene Smith of Arapahoe and to this union three children were born, Amy Rebecca, Nicholas Burnard and Allen Daniel. The family made their home in Arapahoe. With the help of special friends, Dale and John, Joy and her husband, Dan, were able to start the "Lil Red Trucking Company," with their son Allen, in Arapahoe where she was the bookkeeper until the time of her death.

Some of Joy's greatest attributes were that she didn't have a selfish bone in her body. Material things were not important to her, but people were. She loved working with her hands, sewing, knitting, crocheting and making quilts for her family and friends. She enjoyed collecting angels and antique clocks. She was a real "Good Samaritan" in her helping and providing for others and being a true friend to so many, that it would be hard to count. Her love for animals and their response to her was unbelievable. Her greatest love was her family and especially her three grandchildren, Bryce, Tyler and Tessa.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Oxford and later a member of the United Methodist Church in Arapahoe, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Her faith was deep and she lived a true Christian life.

Joy leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Daniel of Arapahoe; one daughter, Amy and husband, Trey Govier of Lincoln; two sons, Nicholas Smith and wife, Brenda and son, Bryce Jacob of Kearney, and Allan Smith and wife, Kristy and son, Tyler of Arapahoe; honorary children, Katie Smith and Tessa Jackson of Kearney; her parents, Clarence and Phyllis Wilsey of Oxford; two brothers, Philip Wilsey and wife, Kim of Grand Island and Allan Wilsey and wife, Janice of Omaha; niece, Mieke Wilsey of Omaha; nephews, Tony Wilsey and wife, Meghan and their daughter, Alexas of Kearney, and Justin and Andrew Wilsey of Omaha; mother-in-law, Mary Joyce Smith of Beatrice; sister-in-law, Deb and husband, Earl Kruse and their children, Peter, Grant and Brittany of Breman, Kan.; brother-in-law, Terry Smith and wife, Leslie and their children, Lona Andrews and husband, Keith, Terry Smith, Jr. and Brandi of Holbrook; aunt, Myrna Watson, Jim and Mary Wilson, Jeff Wilson and Joe Wilson of Dallas, Texas; uncle, Don Wilsey and wife, Dorothy and their children, Steve and Liz Wilsey, Mike and Kathy Wilsey, David Wilsey and Kathy and Bill Bellas of Portland, Ore.; uncle, Gary Wilsey and his wife, Ginger and their children, Jennifer and Tony LaDucca of California, James Wilsey and Kristen of Lincoln; and her grandmother, Almina Wilsey of California. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Willis and Bernice Rowe; grandfather, Joy Wilsey; and father-in-law, Harry Smith, Jr.
