SANTA FE, N.M. -- Matthew J. McCann, 32, died Friday (April 4, 2003) at his home.

He was born April 4, 1971, at St. Paul, to Bob Lee and Ruth Yvonne (Birginal) McCann. He grew up in St. Paul and attended St. Paul Public Schools. He graduated in 1989 from St. Paul High School. He received his bachelors degree in sports recreation from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1993. He moved to Ames, Iowa, where he worked as a counselor in a group home for abused teens. He returned to Kearney in 1995 and worked in the UNK admissions office. He obtained his masters degree in education administration from UNK in December 1999. He later moved to Bennington, Vt., where he worked at Bennington College. He returned to Kearney in 2002 and moved to Santa Fe in September.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents. Survivors include three sisters, Mikki McCann and friend, Dennis Dobberstine of Lincoln, Mindy and husband, Bill Saalfeld of McCook and Marcie Greenwalt of Allen, Texas; three brothers, Michael McCann and wife, Robyn of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mitchell McCann and wife, Katie of St. Paul and Mark McCann and wife, Naomi of Medera, Calif.; eight nieces; and five nephews.

Memorial services will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul with the Rev. Thomas Hyde and family members officiating. Inurnment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery at St. Paul.
