ATWOOD -- Bernita A. (Prideaux) Porter Most, 78, died Sunday (April 13, 2003) at the Rawlins County Health Center in Atwood.
She was born Sept. 17, 1924, south of Atwood in Rawlins County, to John Henry and Bertha (Threlkel) Prideaux.
On April 23, 1944, she married Russell R. Porter at Oberlin. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1973.
On Oct. 6, 2001, she married Harry J. Most at Atwood. He preceded her in death in 2001.
She was a homemaker, taught country school at Queen of the Driftwood, northwest of Atwood for one year, and was a professional cake baker and decorator for more than 30 years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Atwood United Methodist Women, Ruth Circle and the Year Around Pinochle Club, all of Atwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and both husbands.
Survivors include four sons, Gerald R. Porter and wife, Phyllis of Woodland Park, Colo., Troy L. Porter and wife, Teresa of St. Francis, Royce L. Porter and wife, Anita of Colby, Kan., and Merlin D. Porter and wife, Brenda of Lyons, Kan.; one daughter, Rhonda (Porter) and husband, Brian Laufer of Ludell; two step-daughters, Linda Kay Houk of Salina, Kan., and Patty Ann and husband, Jim Murray of Wichita, Kan.; one brother, Fredrick E. Prideaux and wife, Lorraine of Sylmar, Calif.; two sisters, Leta Marie and husband, Walter Rippe and Mary Kathryn and husband, Eugene Leitner all of Atwood; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at the Atwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry McGuire officiating. Interment will be in the Atwood Fairview Cemetery at Atwood.
Visitation is today until 9 p.m., Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. all at the funeral home, and from noon until service time at the church.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Atwood United Methodist Church or to the American Diabetes Association.
