OBERLIN -- Wendell T. Frickey, 85, died Saturday (April 26, 2003) at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan.
He was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Decatur County, to John and Elizabeth (Pauley) Frickey. He was raised in Kanona, Kan.
He was an Air Force Medical Technician during World War II.
On Aug. 20, 1938, he married Wanda Chandler in Norton, Kan. They lived at Wilsonville where he owned and operated a locker plant. They then farmed in the Lyle Community of Decatur County before moving to Oberlin in 1970.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Lebanon and Oberlin American Legions.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda on May 23, 2002; brothers, Vern, Dwight, Woodrow and Lawrence "Sam" Frickey; and sisters, Naomi Branvold and Fern Gaumer.
Survivors include two sons, Willard Frickey and wife, Jackie of Hays and Wayne Frickey and wife, Donna of Rome, Texas; two brothers, Norton Frickey and wife, Zel of Denver, Colo., and Harold Frickey of Oberlin; one sister, Lela Huff of Broomfield, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were today, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Doug Hasty officiating. Interment was in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Oberlin American Legion.
