ARAPAHOE -- Maria Elfrieda Stover, 99, died Saturday (May 10, 2003) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
She was born Feb. 20, 1904, at Schomberg, Germany, to Paul and Marie (Sollich) Badura. After receiving her schooling, she worked for a telephone company as a secretary in Schomberg. She then had to help her family for many years during World War II, as they had to travel extensively for a number of years. She came to the United States in 1956.
On May 10, 1956, she married Detrich "Dick" Stover at Beaver City. They resided on a farm north of Arapahoe, where they farmed until her husband passed away in 1978. In 1982, she moved to Arapahoe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Detrich; daughter, Helen Haussler; and sons-in-law, Martin Haussler and Kenneth Hornaday.
Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Hornaday of Oxford; one sister, Elisabeth Wittich of Lubeck, Germany; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, 2:30 p.m., at the Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe with the Rev. Carl Lilienkamp officiating. Burial will be at St. Matthews Cemetery of rural Arapahoe.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the funeral home in Arapahoe.
