1942: Sacrifices and sales

The events of the past week have allowed me grasp the American mind set that was in place in 1942. Gazette Editor Harry Strunk wrote a March 21st editorial headlined "No Sacrifice Too Great -- But!" We all say we would sacrifice ... we could conserve gasoline if called to do so, we could conserve tires if asked ... whatever it takes to get our country through a crisis. How would we do in actuality?
