Can't reset the dog

Tuesday, October 30, 2001

Dear Editor,

I feel daylight savings time is something that has outlived its original purpose. Personally, I don't care whether we have daylight or standard time, I just wish it would be left one way or the other. It's like cutting 12 inches off the end of a blanket and sewing it onto the other end -- you still end up with the same size blanket. Everyone still has the same 24-hour day, and how they choose to use it is up to them. I feel the Legislature should have more critical things to concern themselves with than arranging our days to accommodate more leisure time. We should be capable of doing that for ourselves. I cannot believe that it actually saves energy -- no logic involved there. There are parts of the country who do not abide by the daylight saving time switch.

What would we have to do to accomplish that? Vote by the people? Maybe I'm just crabby today because my dog didn't "fall back" and got me up at his usual time of 6:30 to go out. He didn't care that daylight savings time ended, and it was now my standard time of 5:30.
