Outrages at letter

Friday, November 16, 2001

Dear Editor,

I am writing to you in response to the letter Judy Coe sent regarding the letter she received for riding her horses in town.

I, for one, am outraged by this. Doesn't the Stratton Village board have better things to do than harass it citizens?

We had a water shortage this summer and had to ration our water. If you're a young person looking for a place to live, don't look in Stratton, because there aren't any available houses for rent. Yeah, Stratton is good place to grow, with friendly people and good schools, but I, for one, think that the village board could use its time more productively than harassing Mrs. Coe about some manure.

I am not, by any means anti- farmer but do our local farmers get a letter when they string hay through town? And does the board say anything when grain is spilled on Main Street around the co-op?

And I would like to know, did all the other people who have ridden their horses in town receive letters also or is Mrs. Coe special? I have fond memories of growing up in Stratton and seeing Mrs. Coe riding her horses around town, and for a kid to be able to pet and maybe sit on one of her horses was pretty special.

Yeah, we need rules and yes they need to be followed, but Stratton a small town, a farming town, where deer walk the streets.

I just think that the city of Stratton was out of line by send their letter to Mrs. Coe. What did she harm? Were the streets permanently damaged? (You) can't say it attracted flies; we have had an abundance of them anyway. So, leave Judy alone and let her ride her horse and visit with her neighbors and let the kids see the horses and pet them. What is she honestly hurting?

Sincerely
