It takes an atheist
Dear Editor,
Isn't it ironic that it takes an anonymous self-proclaimed atheist to remind Christians what we are to be about?
It was Jesus Himself that said we were not to be scanning the sky for His return, but to be about our assigned tasks, Mark 13.
Let me assure the writer of the piece in the Nov. 20, 2001 McCook Gazette that "the Rapture" and other religious fiction only appears in the proliferation of books from the mind of men making large profits.
The Apostle Paul chided the Thessalonian church for assuming the second coming was in their lifetime and their subsequent idleness.
Lately we have seen numerous letters to the editor excitedly proclaim the "end times" are here. This leaves the wrong impression with the world. The Gospel of salvation is ignored and the acts of love and compassion are tragically forgotten as characteristic of God's people. The signs of the "last times" have been in every generation for over 2000 years. The Apostle Peter proclaimed on Pentecost that was the beginning of the "last days," Acts 2:15-17. That is to say, the church was established then and there would be no more to expect in the coming history of mankind until the second coming. That day is not our concern and as the anonymous writer said, the world is full of unfulfilled prophecies.
Respectfully,
Bill Lewis
