Who will pay?

Monday, March 25, 2002

I am back for a few weeks and was reading old news. I did not know that McCook was growing fast enough to annex more land. Is this another way of collecting monies for the city's shortfalls. In the process the city talks about declining population in McCook. Does this mean that we the big city will get more industry because we are growing so fast? Who pays for the paving of new streets and alleys, new roads? Guess who? The almighty taxpayer.

Now if everyone reads their mail that was delivered Sat. the 16th of March, they will have a surprise and will not like it. Talk about taxes, aren't we taxed enough, What is the city trying to do. From reading the letter from the city one could deduct that they are getting greedy.

Why doesn't the city council just raise taxes and be done with the whole scheme. Get out behind the bushes and be honest instead of beating around the bushes. It is no wonder that the rent in McCook has almost doubled and that should not have happened. For one, the wages are not where they should be and where is the new industry for the rent to go up so high.

When the city slickers start being honest with the taxpayer and stop trying to gouge them then just maybe the people will trust the people at the top of the ladder. It is like the commercial, pay me now or pay me later such as Enron and GE.

The employer talks about wages. When you have deals such as Enron and G.E. What and how does the public expect the worker to feel and say when they are cheated out of there hard earned monies.
