Student responds

Wednesday, April 24, 2002

Dear Editor:

As a student at McCook High School and a participant in last Wednesday's "mock disaster," I am outraged at the community's response to what happened. Although the presentation offered a shocking dose of reality, in my opinion, it worked. I have personally received countless pats on the back for what my class did.

The citizens of this town don't know what EMTs and Paramedics have to take home at night. They see things that most people can't even fathom. If this community would pop the bubble that we have been living in, they would see that the point our class was trying to get across offered no subliminal messages and should not be read into.'

The McCook Fire Department should not be held responsible for our actions. They participated for two reasons -- to protect this community's future and because we asked them to.

Would you rather your children be exposed to five minuts of grief or a lifetime of it?

Sincerely,

Chelsey Hubert
