Are taxpayers paying?

Monday, August 19, 2002

Why is the Red Willow County taxpayers involved in financing a half of the Kipplinger Horse Arena.

It was reported by the Gazette to be a 100 percent gift. Does Red Willow County earn 6 percent on the balance due until Kipplinger or the Red Willow County Fair Board pays us off.

Can all Red Willow taxpayers use this property for whatever reason since local tax payers are paying to build the arena.

Editorial note: The construction of the Kipplinger Equestrian Arena ultimately will not be funded by Red Willow County taxpayers. Southwest Nebraska rancher Tom Kipplinger of McCook will reimburse a loan and interest upon his death, if not before, according to County Commissioner Earl McNutt.

Kipplinger has also earmarked funds for the maintenance of the completed building.

The sand arena will limit somewhat the type of events that will be able to use the building, but Kipplinger intends to it to be used for horse events and 4-H and FFA activities.
