Game offers needed break
After our long, hot summer, it's hard to believe any of us would do anything but welcome its end. Already, many of us have already ended the first week of school, and the high school sports season is ready to shift into high gear.
Labor Day is only a week away, but before then, another traditional season-marker has arrived.
Lincoln's Memorial Stadium will be alive with expectations Saturday as the Huskers host Arizona State University in the Black Coaches Association Classic.
Thankfully, moderate temperatures are expected for kickoff time at 6:47 p.m. The season opener will be broadcast on ESPN.
It's a chance for the Blackshirts, who gave up 99 points in its last two outings, to get back on track.
It's also a chance for drought-weary Nebraskans to get their minds off farm and economic troubles.
Win or -- unlikely as it may seem -- lose, there will be time enough to face our problems after the football game and a day off Sunday.
Go Big Red!
