Both harmful

Tuesday, October 15, 2002

Dear Editor,

The facts are in, look at the Nebraska players in trouble that drink. Everyone wants to ban the smokes but the alcohol is "OK."

Someone please get their head out of the sand. Cigarettes and alcohol both are killers, if you raise taxes on one, why not the other?

I was a smoker for 40 years, and I have nothing against any smoker. No one twisted my arm to smoke or to drink. I can tell you this much, from my experience in life, they both can and will harm you.

Smoking turns into emphysema and alcohol turns into sclerosis of the liver in which makes your liver hard, and also alcohol causes sclerosis which causes nerve damage.

If you drink or smoke, do it moderately. As the years go on, this is what can happen to you. Some day the public will understand that money cannot buy happiness but it sure can help sometimes the wrong way.

If you have ever watched someone die from the diseases named above, then you will appreciate life more than ever. Cancer and liver disease are devastating.
