More troopers to be at work on the holiday

Tuesday, November 26, 2002

Heading out to see relatives on Thursday? Is someone coming to see you? Let's remind them, and ourselves, to do everything we can to make this a memorable Thanksgiving Day holiday for the right reasons.

Gathering together with family and friends is what make the holidays the wonderful time they can be.

Getting in an accident shouldn't be part of the equation. If that's not enough incentive, law enforcement is doing its part to help get the point across.

Thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety, Nebraska State Patrol troopers will be putting in 210 overtime hours from Wednesday through Monday.

That's the equivalent of 26 extra troopers on the road. There's a good reason for the added enforcement.

In 2000, three people died over the Thanksgiving holiday. In 2001, two died. Could we improve that to zero this year? Let's do our best to make it happen.
