State economics

Wednesday, March 5, 2003

Dear Editor,

Some area citizens have been getting all worked up over the possible closing of our prison camp.

From an economic standpoint, the center contributes to help balance the state budget (which as we all know is in terrible shape). The center generates huge amounts of new and surplus capital, which in turn goes back to the state, which invests this money in educational systems, the lottery system, etc.

The state then sends the profits to the federal government, which then donates huge amounts of money back to the state, which then charitably gives money out to support local community support.

Think about it. If the McCook Work Ethic Camp were to close, there would be a severe state economic crisis!

Steve Stramel,

McCook
