Hometown hero

Tuesday, April 15, 2003

Dear Editor,

My name is Barbara and I am writing to tell you about a McCook "Hometown Hero."

My aunt and I were on a road trip from Texas to Nebraska, with my 15-year-old best friend and companion, Kalee (a cocker spaniel).

My Kalee took ill, and we called Dr. Wayne Watkins, who immediately offered to meet us at his Red Willow Animal Clinic and take a look at my girl.

The bloodwork indicated she was in kidney failure failure and had lots of fluid around her heart.

Dr. Watkins spent some caring time with us, and because of his love and commitment to pets, he helped her enough so I could get her back to my folks' house in Oklahoma where my precious Kalee is now in her final resting place.

My heart is broken and I miss my girl terribly, however I shall always be grateful that McCook is the home of a wonderful Dr. Wayne Watkins.

Grand Prairie, Texas
