Flag Day Ceremony

Merrill Ream (left) and Dan Stramel fold the flag during the Flag Day ceremony conducted Sunday by the McCook Elks Lodge No. 1434 and Does Drove No. 3. Also on display were eight flags illustrating Old Glory's history, starting with the pine tree flag of 1775; the 1776-77 snake flag; 1775 united 13 colonies flag; the 1775 United States flag with six pointed stars; the 1777 flag, designed by Betsy Ross, with five pointed stars; the 1795 flag with seventeen stars, each representing the states of the union; the 1818 48 star flag, and the current United States of America flag with 13 alternating, red and white stripes and 50 stars. The flags were carried in by area Boy Scouts. The Does also presented a flag ceremony and Tony Ham of Benkelman sang "Grand Ol' Flag."
