Cutting time

Friday, June 28, 2002

A combine delivers its load of freshly-cut wheat near the Massacre Canyon Monument east of Trenton on Thursday afternoon. The wheat harvest is moving rapidly through the region. The harvest is "going pretty good" according to the Culbertson elevator, with moisture running 9 to 13 percent, average test weight 59.5 and protein 11-16 percent. Frenchman Valley Co-op in McCook reported a similar test weight, moisture in the 10 to 11 percent, and protein 12 to 15 percent. The harvest is expected to pick up as the Fourth of July approaches.
