City Council has light agenda

The McCook City Council will conduct a public hearing concerning a Class A liquor license for Western Staab, Inc., owners of the McCook Pizza Hut at its regular meeting Monday night in the Council Chambers of Memorial Auditrorium.

In additon, the council will be asked to approve an amendment to the municipal sewer department code which gives specific instruction on how a job site that includes alley or street excavaions are to be managed on second reading.

Under the consent agenda, which the council can approve on one motion:

- Council members will be asked to approve plans and specifications for municipal pool repairs and set the date to receive the bids for Monday, Aug. 5.

- The Council will receive and file a letter from Jerry Reitz requesting the establishment of a vendor license to regulate street vendor businesses in McCook by implementing a vendor tax.

- The city staff will ask the council to approve recommendations for long term solid waste collection and disposal.

Those recommendations include a contract extension with J Bar J until Jan. 1, 2015 or a call for new bids for solid waste hauling in July, 2004 with the contract to take effect Jan. 1, 2005.

Also the staff will ask permission to pursue grant funding options for the construction of a new regional recycling/transfer station building and city staff will ask permission to prepare a list of specific recommendations to expand solid waste collection services for the city for consideration for the Sept. 16 meeting.

- The council will receive and file a status report on long distance ambulance transfer service to be provided by Good Samaritan Health Services of Kearney.

The council will also meet Tuesday, 7 p.m., for the first of three budget workshop meetings.
