Superintendent to attend debut meeting

McCook Public Schools board of education members will continue discussions of school policy concerning extended trips and student fees for extracurricular activities during their regular meeting Monday, at 7:30 p.m. in the junior high conference room.

The meeting will be the first for new superintendent Dr. Don Marchant.

Also on the agenda is an update on a proposed contract with Sodexho America LLC to provide food services for McCook schools. The contract is being reviewed by the Nebraska Department of Education, and should be ready for board approval at the Aug. 12 meeting.

Board members will also consider a contract with Carmen Parra to teach junior-senior high Spanish.

Other agenda items are: - Further discussion of the vocal music department's proposed trip to Los Angeles in the summer of 2003 and the cheerleaders's proposed trip to Orlando, Fla., in the spring of 2003.

- The purchase of a 1989 activities bus for $72,500, in Fairbault, Minn.

- A proposal to build a 20-by-20-foot storage shed between the tennis courts and track announcer's booth.

- Review of the athletics/activities financial report.

- Consideration of changes in the junior-senior high parent-student handbook.

- Discussion of policy concerning eye protection devices and fines for lost or damaged items.

- Closed session to discuss contract negotiations and personnel.
