Turnout heavy for Heritage Days

Beautiful fall weather, great attractions and loyal participation combined to make Heritage Day 2002 a successful event all around.

Marie Owen, executive director of the McCook Area Chamber of Commerce expressed gratitude to her staff and the hundreds of other volunteers who helped make the parade, Norris Park activities and the visit of the antique B-24 and B-29 bombers a rousing success.

Authorities estimated up to 5,000 in attendance at the annual parade along Norris Avenue.

There were about 116 entries in the parade, according to officials.

Prize winners included:

The McCook Human Society, Community, Service and Church entry award.

McCook National Bank, Large Business award.

Tri-State Livestock, Small Business award.

Silver Spurs, The Horse Club award.

McCook Explorers, Large Youth entry award.

Llamas R Us, Small Youth entry award.

Del Harsh, 1964 Rambler American Convertible, Del Harsh.

Elmo Sughroue, Farm Antique entry award.

McCook Cordials, traveling trophy.

Band Day results

Seven bands took part in the MCC Band Days and three participated in the field competition at Weiland Field. Parade results include:

Tennis Ball Dunk

The 10 winners of the Tennis Ball Dunk were Rod Gaston, $500; Colin Smith, $300; Heather Muņoz, $100; Shannon Bricker, $100; Harry Hixson, $100; Suzanne Abercrombie, $50; H. Carmichael, $50; Brenda Gillen, $50; Sherry Vap, $25 and Carlie Chancellor, $25.
