KEARNEY -- McCook City Council candidate Dan Petty continues to show improvement following an accident in which he was kicked by a horse Sept. 29.

Petty's wife Deb said this morning that Petty underwent surgery last week at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney to repair the third, fourth and fifth vertebrae in his neck, which had been crushed during the accident, causing contusions on his spinal cord.

Surgeons were able to replace the crushed bone, fuse the vertebrae and place a plate in the area.

Petty is showing improved movement throughout his body, Mrs. Petty said, although he still has very limited movement in his hands.

Mrs. Petty said her husband is expecting to be moved to Good Samaritan's rehabilitation unit within the week.

There have been funds established at the First Central Bank and McCook National Bank to assist with medical expenses.
