Life planning seminar set for persons with disabilities

Thursday, October 10, 2002

Life Planning for Persons with Disabilities will present a two-hour workshop on financial and future-care planning for families who have a person with a disability.

Sponsored by the Association for Retarded Citizens Southwest, the workshop will be 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Country Kitchen Restaurant/Chief Motel in McCook. Steve Morris, state director of LPD, will present the seminar.

LPD is a unique regional organization that was established to assist families in preparing a comprehensive life plan for that member of the family who has special future financial and care needs. LPD employs professional teams of planners and attorneys to prepare one-stop, low-cost, comprehensive plans. As a public service, it also offers free seminars to persons with disabilities, their families, professionals and other interested persons.

Topics to be discussed include developing a comprehensive life/estate plan, preserving governmental benefits, writing the letter of intent, determining supplemental needs and costs, preparing last wills and testaments, implementing supplemental special needs trusts, selecting successor trustees, funding the trust-average family, choosing successor guardians, and coordinating residential care, education, employment and religious components to guarantee a comfortable lifestyle.

There is no charge to attend this workshop and you can receive more information or register by phone by calling Linda Koch, executive director at (308) 278-2788, to register by Tuesday.
