Bison fans honor team

Everything seems to be red on Norris Avenue and in Norris Park Sunday as the community celebrates McCook Senior High's Class B state football championship. John Hubert's LaFrance firetruck (upper left) carried the senior players, who were followed by red, white and black convertibles and pickups carrying other players, coaches and cheerleaders. Hollie Eiler and Megan Rokusek (below, right) toted a "Bison No. 1" banner along the parade route. Two-year-old D.J. Gross (top right) viewed the parade and program from the shoulders of his dad, Bison head coach, Jeff Gross. At the park, the seniors (below, left) helped Cambridge sculptor Gary Ginther (a graduate of MHS in 1965) unveil the much-anticipated "Prairie Bull" bronze -- finished just in time to celebrate the football team's 13-0 season and state championship. The sculpture will be placed on the front lawn of the Carnegie Library and High Plains Museum. Basketball season takes over this week, as the Bison boys play Imperial Thursday, at home at 7:45 p.m.
