I remember that! The Pool
The Art Deco front is about all that remains of the pool that existed when I grew up in McCook. It had two small (non-Olympic size) pools and a smaller wading pool.
I clearly remember the first time I jumped off the 500 foot tower, who I was with and what time of day it was.
I also remember every afternoon at about 3 p.m., a life-guard would stand on the area separating the two main pools and toss a handful of change into the water for us to recover -- I thought it was an amazing thing to do. If I could manage to retrieve six cents, I'd have enough to buy a package of pretzel sticks at the pool store.
The pool would often be closed for long periods of time during the summer because of polio scares.
