Distance learning on college table

Wednesday, December 18, 2002

NORTH PLATTE -- The Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors will consider a plan to pick up the slack in providing the space and personnel for upper division distance learning class offerings at North Platte and McCook campus sites.

The meeting is set for 5 p.m. today at the technical campus, 1101 Halligan Drive in North Platte.

The void was created when the University of Nebraska system decided to shut down its distance learning offerings throughout the state from UNO, UNL and UNK. The Board is also expected to finalize a $4.1 million dollar Bond Issue for construction of the residence halls in North Platte and remaining debt in McCook.

In other action the Board will consider:

- Replacement of a video security system for the residence hall in McCook.

- A proposal for adopting Web CT-a hosting platform and technical support system for the creation and presentation of on-line classes throughout the Mid-Plains system.
