Truck collecting coordinates for new E-911 system

Friday, January 10, 2003

The driver of the 1999 GMC Jimmy with signs reading "E-911 EMERGENCY SYSTEM" and "Official County Business" will be gathering information for Red Willow County's new Enhanced Emergency 911 System.

Josh Reed, an employee of GeoComm Corp., will be driving throughout the county during the next four to six weeks, according to the county's E-911 Systems Administrator Ike Brown.

Reed's vehicle will be stopping at driveways and entrances of rural properties to complete a computer entry of the latitude and longitude of the location.

Brown said Reed's activities are necessary to complete Global Positioning System maps and rural addresses for the Enhanced E-911 System.

Brown said new rural addresses that will include county road and county drive numbers will take effect later this year and will be coordinated with the U.S. Postal Service and government entities.
