Culbertson man dies in accident

MAYWOOD -- A Culbertson man was killed in a single-vehicle accident near Maywood on Tuesday night, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

The man, Alan Harms, 43, was a passenger in a car which was southbound on U.S. Highway 83 south of Maywood, when the driver, Randy Hawn, 23, Hayes Center, lost control.

The vehicle entered the ditch, hitting a guard rail.

Harms suffered fatal injuries in the accident, which occurred at 9:35 p.m.

Hawn was taken to Community Hospital of McCook with a hip injury. David Gigax, 43, of McCook was also transported to the hospital for lower leg injuries. None of the passengers were wearing seat belts.

The vehicle was totaled and road conditions were not a factor in the accident, as reported by the State Patrol.

Both the State Patrol and Frontier County Sheriff's Office continue the investigation
