Extension Service offers 'Tough Times' conference

Friday, February 21, 2003

Farmers, ranchers and rural business owners are facing one of the toughest times in history. Adverse weather conditions and other factors are placing overwhelming stress on individuals, families and rural communities.

Not only are farmers and ranchers suffering with drought, water shortages and occasional flood conditions, but they continue to contend with low commodity prices, high production costs, pests and disease.

The University of Nebraska Cooperative Extension educators and assistants have teamed together to develop the "Challenges and Choices in Tough Times" Conference.

The local Challenges and Choices in Tough Times Conference will be Saturday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. MST, at the Senior Center in Wauneta

Registration begins 30 minutes before starting time.

Tim Peterson, group support leader for the Healthy Lifestyles Department at Good Samaritan Health Systems in Kearney, will give the keynote address on "Stress Management and Families." Other presentations will be given on staying healthy, communication and credit card management.

The conference is sponsored by the University of Nebraska Cooperative Extension. Registration is encouraged. Contact Mary K. Warner, Extension Educator at (308) 345-3390 or toll free at (877) 674-6947 or your local Extension office for more information.
