The Southwest Nebraska Household Waste Team will accept used computers along with the usual household waste items during a "spring clean-up" collection Saturday, April 5, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the facility at 108 Railroad Service Road in McCook.

In addition to this one-time-only collection of used computers, the team will accept the usual household products such as used motor oil and antifreeze, batteries (vehicle and flashlight/calculator, etc.), household cleaning supplies, yard and garden chemicals and paints, stains, strippers and finishes.

Appliances, tires and construction or yard waste are not accepted.

Contact Program Manager Bill Elliott, (308) 345-7888 or (308) 345-4333, with questions about items that may or may not be accepted.

Materials should be delivered in sturdy, disposable containers no larger than five gallons or 50 pounds. Each item should retain its original label or be labeled appropriately.

The collection will be located at the county's new HWC facility, at the far west end of South Street, at the junction of South Street and Railroad Service Road, just south and east of Klein's Motor and Electric's south lot.

Resources and manpower for this collection are provided by Red Willow County's Household Waste Collection Program, Red Willow Western Rural Fire Department's HazMat Team, local volunteers and Southwest Nebraska RC&D.

Disposal expenses are provided by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality Waste Reduction and Recycling Grant Program.
