Powerlifter has local ties

ANSLEY -- A recent edition of "Country" magazine features an Ansley High School 16-year-old and her state and national powerlifting championships.

Lindsey Hartman has set American records, lifting 280 pounds in the squat and 305 pounds in the deadlift in the 132-pound weight class. Lindsey is the daughter of Kim and Allen Hartman and the granddaughter of Ruth Ann of McCook and the late Ernie Hackenkamp.

Country's field editor Joan Sullivan of Rockville writes that Lindsey's desire to strengthen her legs for sports led her to lifting weights. Her coach, Kevin Fulton, is a neighboring farmer who helps area kids work out on weight equipment in the stalls of his remodeled horse barn. Fulton helped train two Olympic lifters, Sullivan wrote.

Lindsey is also on the honor roll and plays trumpet in the band and shows market steers in 4-H and FFA.
