Vault artist supports McCook Art Council

Wednesday, April 16, 2003

The McCook Art Guild's Vault artist for April is Jan Korell of McCook.

Korrel moved to McCook with her husband, Van, in 1992 and has been involved in the McCook art community since that time.

She studied art at Hastings College, the University of Nebraska and McCook Community College. She has worked with art most of her adult life and in various mediums. She has spent more time and energy on her art since her children grew up.

She is also heavily involved in the promotion of art and artists. She has served on the Nebraska Arts Council for many years and was substantial in the formation of the McCook Art Council, an umbrella organization for the many art venues in the McCook community.

Her selections for the exhibit include "Misty Dawn" (upper left) which uses a mix of oranges and blues; "Pitcher of Posies" (upper right) which sets a dramatic background of purples and pinks for the delicate flowers; and "Winter Shadows" (at right). Korell uses bold blues and greens to show the cold winter scene.

Korell's art will be in the Vault at the McCook Fine Arts Gallery, 209 Norris Avenue. The gallery is open Wednesday, 1-4 p.m., Thursday, 12-8 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
