Surgeon returns to full-time practice

Dr. Kenneth Ellis, board certified orthopedic surgeon, has returned to a full-time practice with the Community Hospital Orthopedic Clinic, joining orthopedic surgeon, Richard Slovek, M.D. Dr. Ellis specializes in general orthopedics with an emphasis in joint replacement.

"We are pleased that Dr. Ellis is renewing his commitment to the Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas area by returning to a full-time orthopedic practice," said Gary Bieganski, Community Hospital President. "Dr. Ellis is an excellent orthopedic physician who strives to provide quality care for his orthopedic patients."

Dr. Ellis joined the Community Hospital Orthopedic Clinic in 1995, working full-time until 2000, when he continued on staff by providing on-call coverage with Dr. Slovek. Known as one of the pioneer physicians in orthopedics in Central Nebraska, Dr. Ellis was one of the first physicians to start an orthopedic practice in Kearney. He practiced in Kearney from 1968 until 1995, when he moved to McCook.

Dr. Ellis was born and raised in Cambridge. He is a graduate of Kearney State College and the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. He interned at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha for one year. He completed a residency in general surgery at Iowa Methodist Hospital in 1965 and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Oklahoma Medical College in 1968.

Dr. Ellis and his wife, Carolyn, have four grown children. The Community Hospital Orthopedic Clinic is located in the Medical Specialists Center, adjacent to Community Hospital. Appointments may be made with Dr. Ellis or Dr. Slovek by calling the clinic at (308) 345-8376.
