Development along North Highway U.S. 83 is kicking into full gear with the announcement that a Blockbuster Video is coming to the former Autozone building.

Plans for a housing development in the same area will be presented to the McCook Planning Commission at a meeting in the McCook City Council Chamber at Memorial Auditorium on Monday.

Darrel Potthoff, co-owner of Heritage Hills LLC announced that a company hopes to have the new video, DVD and video game rental store open in 30 - 60 days.

The store will be owned by a Blockbuster franchisee from Dallas, he said.

The company will be hiring locally, according to Don Hopkins of Nebraska Workforce Development.

He said according to the information he has received, employees will include a manager, two assistant managers, shift supervisors and customer service representatives.

Blockbuster Video has more than 8,000 stores in the United States and 26 other countries.

Plans for the Villas at Heritage Hills, a development proposed by Potthoff and his partner Thom Widawski will be presented to the McCook Planning Commission Monday. Plans are to develop 18 upscale homes. The infrastructure for the first eight units is to be completed in eighteen months.

While there is no time limit to complete the first eight units in the first phase of the project, once the eighth unit is sold, developers will have eighteen months to complete the infrastructure for the second phase of the project.
