RVL team crowns go to Cambridge boys, Alma girls

OXFORD -- The Cambridge boys track team claimed the team title at the Republican Valley League track meet Friday at Southern Valley, while Alma won the girls' title.

Cambridge finished with 148 points for first place, while Bertrand was runner-up with 137 points. Dundy County earned 107 points for third, followed by Alma with 91 points, Arapahoe with 35, Southern Valley with 6 and Republican Valley with 3 points.

On the girls side, Alma won with 110 points. Cambridge finished in second with 95 points. Other team scores were Bertrand with 91 points, Dundy County, 88 points, Southern Valley with 61, Republican Valley with 60 and Arapahoe with 22.

The Trojans were led by Kyle Custer who had two first-place finishes: the 1,600 meter run in 4 minutes, 50.6 seconds and the 3,200 meter run in 10:19.2.

Tristan Foster also placed first in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 11 inches. Cambridge also won the 3,200 meter relay in 8:46.0. Relay members included Phil Macke, Brett Cribelli, Scott Laue and Marcus Vontz.

Dundy County's Nate Stroup finished the day with three gold medals including the 110 hurdles in 14.9 seconds, the 300 hurdles in 41.4 seconds and the triple jump with a mark of 42 feet, 3.75 inches.

Ben Shaw added another first place finish for the Tigers, winning the high jump with 6 feet, 1 inch, while Austin Davis won the discus with a throw of 145 feet, 9 inches.

In the girls division, Cambridge's Christina Houghtelling swept the three jumping events. Her marks were 16 feet, 3.5 inches in the long jump, 5-4 in the high jump and 36-10.5 in the triple jump.

Lisa Minnick had double-gold, winning the shot put at 36 feet, 11.5 inches and the discus at 109-9.

Kaci Nickerson also earned a gold medal for the Lady Trojans in the pole vault with a mark of 9-6.

For Dundy County, Alison Glidden won the 100 hurdles in 17.3 seconds, while Annette Case won the 200 meter dash in 27.4 seconds. Dundy County also won the 400 meter relay in 53.3 seconds with Annette Case, Alison Glidden, Jenny Baney and Vanessa Shill.
