McCook High School junior Lisa Friehe spins into motion during her first-place effort in the girls discus competition at the Nebraska Class B-6 District track meet Thursday at Ogallala. Friehe qualified for state with a throw of 129 feet, 4 inches. Her season-best mark is 129-9. The Nebraska State High School Track and Field Championships starts Thursday and comcludes the following Saturday. Omaha Burke will host the state meet.

McCook High School senior Jeremiah Herron, who signed a letter of intent to compete in cross country and track at Wayne State, finished second in the boys 3200-meter race at dustrict meet Thursday. He posted a time of 10 minutes, 11.3 seconds. Teammates Andrew Yeager and Shawn McMurtrey placed third and fifth in 10:11.5 and 10:22.8.

McCook High School sophomore Amanda Bennett clears the hurdle during the 300-meter hurdles race at the Class B-6 District track meet at Ogallala. Bennett qualified for state with a personal-best time of 48.9 seconds and finished fourth. Bennett also qualified for state in the high jump with a third-place finish. She cleared 5 feet, 1 inch -- a personal-best effort.
