Atwood golfers 1-2 at NWKL Tournament

OBERLIN -- Atwood High School golfers Jordan Hagler and Chris Lamb finished as the first- and second-place medalists at the Northwest Kansas League tournament Friday.

The tournament was played at the Oberlin Country Club.

Colby won the team title with a course-record 319 score. The Eagles eclipsed the old mark of 322 set by Oberlin in 1983.

Atwood finished second at 324, followed by Goodland 329, Hoxie 342, Oberlin 368, Quinter 370 and Oakley 377.

Hagler and Lamb both fired 77s to tie for the lead in regulation. Hagler defeated Lamb in a playoff.

Colby's Christopher Finley placed third with a 78.

Colby's Deni Wieland and Oberlin's Matt Mondero both posted 79s, but Wieland beat Mondero in a playoff for fourth place.

Goodland's Ian Scherling and Colby's Jared Helin placed 6-7 with 80s.

Hoxie's Bradley Stewart and Atwood's Andy Fikan placed 8-9 with 81s. Hoxie's Jeff Cameron was 10th with an 82.

Rounding out scoring for Atwood were Adam Holste 89, Brett Rummel 91 and Curtis Snodgrass 93.

Rounding out scoring for Oberlin were Egan Grafel 92, Jonathan Richards 95, Chris Brown 102, Erik Ahlberg 107 and Jeremy Tally 125.

Oberlin hosted the Kansas Class 2-1A regional today at Oberlin Country Club.

Other schools competing are Atwood, Northern Valley-Rexford, Sharon Springs-Wallace County and Tribune-Greeley County.

The top five teams and top five individuals from non-qualifying teams advance to the Kansas Class 2-1A state golf tournament May 26 at Rolling Meadows in Junction City.
