ARAPAHOE -- Grace Ellen McComb, 96, died Monday (May 19, 2003) at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.
She was born May 10, 1907, at Norton County, Kan., to Isaih and Sarah C. (Thompson) Michals. She was raised in Norton County and attended school at Norton Public Schools. After her schooling, she worked at the Norton Sanitarium at Norton, Kan.
In 1929, she married Alvin George Miller in Norton. They lived in various towns in Furnas County. Then in 1944, they moved to Arapahoe, where she worked as a cook for Arapahoe Public Schools for 23 years. For her service to the school, she was named Honorary Arapahoe High School Alumni.
She later married William Grant McComb. They resided in Arapahoe. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Eastern Star and Country Club Extension Club for 50 years, all of Arapahoe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin Miller on March 14, 1970, and her husband, William McComb on Jan. 24, 1983; infant son, Elvin Donald Miller; daughters, Ellen Young and Evelyn Slife; step-son, Orville Miller; seven brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include her son, Royal Miller and wife, Kae of Hastings; daughter, Karen and husband, Pete Highland of Arapahoe; 20 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Hyeongdong Baek officiating. Interment will be in the Arapahoe Cemetery at Arapahoe.
Visitation is Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to funeral services Thursday at the church.
