Harriet R. Vandervort, 80, of McCook, died Friday (May 23, 2003) at Community Hospital in McCook.
She was born April 5, 1923, at Scranton, Pa., to John David and Harriet (McCullock) James. The family moved to Camden, N.J. where she grew up and attended school. In 1945, she moved to McCook.
On Jan. 20, 1946, she married Bud Vandervort at Oberlin. To this union one daughter, Teresa Louise was born. She worked at Woolworth's for many years and left to work for TRW. She then helped open the Yellow Front Store where she worked until she retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud; her step-mother, Ida Rice; brothers Frank and Jack James; two sisters, Elsie Guiliano and Grace Evans; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Melva Vandervort; and brother-in-law Ken Vandervort.
Survivors include her daughter, Teresa and husband, Mike Sayer of Gothenburg; sisters-in-law, Phyllis and husband, Virgil Schilz of McCook and Ann Vandervort of Omaha; brother-in-law, Jack Vandervort and wife, Bertis of Peniville, La., and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., at the Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with the Rev. Clark Bates officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given in her name.
