WILSONVILLE -- Esther A. (Ruf) Meader, 79, died Wednesday (June 11, 2003) at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge.
She was born April 9, 1924, in rural Red Willow County, to Henry and Anna Marie (Amen) Ruf. She attended and graduated from Lebanon High School on May 22, 1941. She then attended McCook Junior College and completed the one-year teacher training course. She taught in area rural schools until her marriage.
On June 1, 1947, she married Paul Delbert Meader. In the spring of 1949, the couple moved to a farm north of Wilsonville.
She was a member of the Christian Church where she was an active organist, the Christian Women's Fellowship and the Wilsonville Saddle Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; her daughter, Gwendolyn Marie; two brothers, Henry and John; one sister, Leah Lomax; and one son-in-law, Jerry Sayer.
Survivors include one son, Owen Meader of Wilsonville; six daughters, Carolyn and husband, Gary Potter of Elwood, Cheryl Sayer of Cambridge, Paula and husband, Bernard Walz of Indianola, Angie and husband, Donnie Sughroue of Bartley, Luella and husband, John Trumble of Cambridge and Sally and husband, Mike Daffer of Danbury; one brother, Manuel Ruf; six sisters, Katherine Atteberry, Lydia Ruf, Ruby Slavens, Ramona Fisher, Ann Baughman and Margaret Hunter; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at the Christian-Baptist Church in Wilsonville with Keith Theobald officiating. Interment will be at the Wilsonville Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in her name.
