HOLDREGE -- Elsie L. Lockhart, 92, died Saturday (June 21, 2003) at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.
She was born Nov. 27, 1910, near Arapahoe, to Frank and Gertie (Cavanaugh) Brecks. She attended elementary school at rural Snowball School near Arapahoe and attended high school in Arapahoe.
On Jan. 30, 1932, she married Frank Lockhart. To this union four daughters were born. They lived in and around Lexington and McCook where her husband was mainly involved in house constructions. In 1954, they moved to Holdrege where her husband built houses, farmed and raised livestock until they retired and moved into Holdrege in 1976.
She was a member of LLL Extension Club, Atlanta Methodist Women's Society, Holdrege Federated Women's Club, Northeast Bible Study Group, United Methodist Women's Society and the Senior Citizen Bowling League. She was a 55-year member of the Methodist Church. She shared her interest in homemaking with 4-H clubs in McCook and Holdrege for 14 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; two sons-in-law, Robert Rogers and Dean Rowlison; four brothers, Earl, Harold, Hervey and Ivan Brecks; and one granddaughter.
Survivors include her daughters, Dorothy Rogers of McCook, Joan and husband, Norman Day of Miller, Jean Rowlison of Atascadero, Calif., and Sandra and husband, Tom Hofmann of Aurora; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Brecks of Cozad and Pauline Brecks-Hamm of Meridian, Idaho; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 2 p.m., at the Nelson Funeral Home in Holdrege with Wayne Carlson and Chaplin Willard Michael officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.
Visitation will be today until 9 p.m. at the funeral home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in her memory.
