Maynard W. Smalberger

Maynard W. Smalberger, 74, died Friday (July 18, 2003) at Community Hospital in McCook.

He was born May 23, 1929, to Glenn and Arvilla (Sines) Smalberger in Decatur County, Kan. Hee was raised northeast in Oberlin and attended Sherman Center District 104 and graduate from Decatur Community High School in 1948.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He made his home in Oberlin and was a serviceman for Kansas-Nebraska Energy.

He was a member of the Oberlin American Legion Post No. 70. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Harold, Darl, Lloyd and Rex Smalberger; three sisters, Agnes and Donnalee Smalberger and Beulah Lawver.

Survivors include two brothers, Melvin Smalberger of Oberlin and Richard Smalberger of Beaverton, Ore.; two sisters, Ella Mae Wahrman and husband, William of Strasburg, Colo., and Margie Welsh of McCook.

Services are Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Interment is at Sherman Cemetery in rural Oberlin.

Visitation is Tuesday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., and Wednesday until service time.

Memorials may be given in his name.
