CULBERTSON -- Marvin Glen Schleeman, 69, died Tuesday (August 19, 2003) at his home in Culbertson after a long battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 22, 1934, to Richard C. and Bessie Marie (Robinson) Schleeman in Frontier County. He graduated from UNSA at Curtis in 1952, attended Fairbury Jr. College graduating in 1954, then attended Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan.
In 1955, he entered the Army and served during World War II . He was honorably discharged in 1957.
On June 7, 1959 he married Elaine Joyce Osterhoudt at the Congregational Church in Curtis.
He received his masters degree from Kearney State College at Kearney and his specialist degree from the University of Wyoming at Laramie. He retired from education in July 1996 after five years of teaching and coaching at Brule Schools, three years as superintendent at Madrid-Wheatland and 28 years as superintendent of Culbertson Schools.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson, McCook Elks Lodge No. 1434, American Legion Post No. 0133, Culbertson CIP, Culbertson Fire Department and served many years on the Culbertson Public Library Board.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Jean Herman.
Survivors include his wife Elaine Schleeman of Culbertson; a son, Douglas Schleeman of Butte, Mont.; two daughters, Cheri Cooper and husband Todd of Rochester, Minn., and Kathy Schleeman of Phoenix, Ariz.; his mother, Bessie Spray of Gothenburg; two brothers, Darwin Schleeman and wife, Merna of Ogallala and Ronald Schleeman and wife, Geri of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother-in-law, Ronnie Herman of Brady; five grandchildren.
Services are Friday, 10 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with the Rev. Daniel Spearow officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell at 2:30 p.m.
Visitation will be today until 8 p.m. Memorials may be given in his name.
