HAYES CENTER -- Nettie May Lawson, 95, died Wednesday (August 20, 2003) at the Great Plains Medical Center. She was born May 1, 1908, to Ralph Dean and Effie Starling in Cambridge. She lived with her grandparents in Cambridge during her early years following the death of her mother.
On Sept. 21, 1925, she married Clifford Lawson in Norton, Kan. The couple moved to Hayes Center and farmed. She spent her last years at the Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home.
She was a member of the Clip and Cook, Happy Hour, Auxiliary and Pinochle clubs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cliff; her son, Clifford Dean Lawson; and half-sister, Peggy Anderson.
Survivors include her daughter, Ilah Rice and husband, Charles of Wauneta; daugther-in-law, Dolores Lawson of Hayes Center; sisters-in-law, Etta Nelms, Carrie Max and May Lawson; one brother-in-law, Jim and wife, Dara Lawson; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services are Monday, 10:30 a.m., at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Hayes Center with the Rev. Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Burial will be at the Hayes Center Cemetery.
Visitation is Saturday until noon and Sunday 3-5 p.m.
Memorials may be given in her name.
